The Resource At a Meeting for Sufferings in New-York, the 12th of the 6th month, 1792. : This meeting on considering the deviations of divers amongst us from our ancient and Christian testimony against calling the days and months by their usual names, is concerned to remind Friends, particularly those who are young in years, of the ground upon which our said testimony stands, by reviving the following information and advice, issued by the direction of the Yearly Meeting in London, held in 1751.--And a concern is also witnessed in this meeting, that by example as well as precept, we may not only support our testimony in those particulars, but also against giving flattering titles, pulling off the hat and bowing the body to our fellow men:--a testimony, which our predecessors in the truth, maintain'd thro' sufferings; being fully persuaded that those practices were introduced to gratify the pride and vanity of man, (electronic resource)
