- Summary
- This four part series explores the life of Jesus and the movement he started, challenging familiar assumptions and conventional notions about the origins of Christianity. Drawing upon new and sometimes controversial historical evidence and interviews with the nation's leading New Testament scholars, the series transports the viewer back 2,000 years to the time and place where Jesus once lived and preached. It traces Jesus' life, focusing on the events that occurred after he died and on his first followers. Part 1 looks at the life, message, and times of Jesus from the perspective of modern scholars, historians, theologians, and archaeologists. Part 2 looks at the rise of Christianity and the beginning of the rift between Christianity and Judaism. Part 3 looks at the development and impact of the four Gospels. Part 4 looks at the events of the 2nd and 3rd centuries and how Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire
